Northern Style BBQ Sauce

This BBQ sauce has the perfect tang, sweetness and spice. Smother it on your ribs and they will definitely be devoured quickly.

Ingredients 

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 660 ml Strained Tomatoes
  • 1 Apple peeled, cored and cut in pieces
  • ¾ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ¼ cup White Vinegar
  • ¾ cup Brown Sugar
  • ½ cup Fancy Molasses
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp Ground Allspice
  • 1 tsp Dry Mustard
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • ¼ tsp Cayenne
  • ½ tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ tsp Liquid Hickory Smoke

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan sauté onion in olive oil until soft and translucent. Then add garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Add the rest of the ingredients except the liquid smoke.
  • Simmer with the saucepan covered for 1 hour.
  • Remove from heat and stir in liquid smoke. Let sauce cool down. Puree in blender until smooth. Makes 4½ cups of sauce.
  • Store in the refrigerator in air tight container. Keeps for 1 week.
